Science Extravaganza Updates

Hello everyone!
Here is the latest information about Science Extravaganza, if you are volunteering, make sure to check this often, as any new information will be posted and updated here.
Time: We need to check in at the UGLC Lobby between 7:30am – 8:00am.
Attire: They will provide t-shirts for us.

We will only have one big lab. Ivan Gris will direct the workshop, everyone else will help students individually if they get stuck along the way.

Training for the members participating will take place between 8:00 – 9:00am during the same Saturday.
This event ends at 2:30.

As far as I know, lunch will be provided as well.

The lab is on the second floor of the old engineering bldg. I don’t remember the number but I’ll post it together with any new information that comes up here!

Special thanks to Jaime Jaloma, Joe Segura, Ana Quevedo, Esthela Gallardo, and Ivan Gris for volunteering for this event!

If anyone else is interested in volunteering let Ivan (igris@miners.utep.edu) know before Thursday at noon!

Workshop Description

Science Extravaganza is one of the biggest and greatest outreach programs hosted by engineering organizations. The program targets high school students, which will get a one day unique experience at UTEP. We are in the stages of planning this event again for this coming spring semester and it will be held March 12th (Saturday). The ACM has been invited to participate and host a workshop for this event.  This year our target will be geared toward high school freshmen. The workshop is a hands on activity related to scientific visualization, that will introduce them to one of the research areas in the engineering field.

Innova Gameworks and Animations former officers, now ACM officers had a blast helping with this activity last year!

Science Extravaganza

Since the 1980s, the College of Engineering has invited pre-college students, teachers and parents to celebrate National Engineers Week as part of the Engineering and Science Expo. Our efforts to meet the growing demand of engineering awareness have led us to collaborate with other events on campus.  We look forward to sharing these exciting tours with high school juniors interested in answers to their engineering questions. Tours will engage students and teachers with engineering faculty and  students who will share their research experiences and their laboratories.

The UTEP student chapter of MAES/SHPE also supports the national E-Week celebration with their fun-filled Science Extravaganza.  This event is part of the organizations outreach to middle school students.  Students will spend the whole day learning about science and engineering through projects ranging from water bottle rockets to the infamous Chemistry Circus.  Students will also be exposed to the facilities of the UTEP campus, and more importantly, college students like themselves  who attended the same exact school and live in their same neighborhoods.
